Google Play screenshot size requirements (2026)
Google Play doesn't have a fixed list of device sizes like the App Store. It has rules. Here they are, taken from Google's Play Console Help. Updated 18 October 2026.
The short answer
- Format: JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha (no transparency).
- Dimensions: minimum 320 px, maximum 3840 px on any side.
- Ratio: the long side can't be more than twice the short side.
- How many: up to 8 screenshots per device type. You need at least 2 screenshots (across device types) to publish.
- Recommended for apps: at least 4 screenshots, 1080 × 1920 portrait (9:16) or 1920 × 1080 landscape (16:9), or larger. Google says this is required to be eligible for recommendation formats that use screenshots.
Phone screenshots
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| File type | JPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha) |
| Smallest side | at least 320 px |
| Largest side | at most 3840 px |
| Aspect ratio | long side ≤ 2 × short side |
| Per device type | up to 8 |
| For recommendations (apps) | ≥ 4 screenshots, min 1080 px; 9:16 portrait (min 1080 × 1920) or 16:9 landscape (min 1920 × 1080) |
| For recommendations (games) | ≥ 3 landscape 16:9 (min 1920 × 1080) or ≥ 3 portrait 9:16 (min 1080 × 1920) |
A practical default: 1080 × 1920 PNG, flattened, 4 to 8 images. It meets every rule above.
Tablets and Chromebooks
Google lists 7-inch and 10-inch tablets and Chromebooks as separate device types. For large screens it says:
- add at least 4 screenshots,
- between 1,080 and 7,680 px,
- 16:9 landscape or 9:16 portrait,
- leave out extra text that isn't part of the app, because it can be cut off on Play homepages on some screen sizes.
Other device types (in brief)
- Wear OS: at least one screenshot, 1:1, minimum 384 × 384, interface only (no device frames, extra text or backgrounds), no transparency.
- Android TV: at least one TV screenshot, plus a required TV banner.
- Android XR: 4 to 8 screenshots, PNG or JPEG, up to 8 MB each, 8:5; recommended 3840 × 2400 (minimum 1920 × 1200).
- Android Automotive OS: depends on your app's category.
Feature graphic and icon
| Asset | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Feature graphic | 1024 × 500, JPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha). Required to publish. Keep key elements away from the edges, where they can be cut off. |
| App icon | 512 × 512, 32-bit PNG (with alpha), max 1024 KB |
Text on screenshots
Google's guidance for screenshots:
- Taglines only if they're needed, and they shouldn't take up more than 20% of the image.
- Nothing that suggests Play performance, ranking, awards, testimonials, or price and promotions, for example "Best", "#1", "Top", "New", "Discount", "Sale" or "Million Downloads".
- Put real app UI first, especially in the first three screenshots.
- Localize your taglines and text for each language you list in.
Localizing Play screenshots
Play lets you upload localized graphics per language in your store listing translations. If you add a language without its own screenshots, users typically see your default ones. More in our Google Play store listing localization guide.
Make Play-ready screenshots from what you have
- The free iPhone Duo screenshot resizer outputs Google Play phone, 7″ and 10″ tablet sizes as flattened RGB PNGs, in your browser, with nothing uploaded.
- HelloPack puts your untouched screenshots in device frames with translated captions and exports a Google Play phone set (1080 × 1920) alongside the App Store sizes, in up to 23 languages. It also writes the Google Play title, short and full description per language. 2 languages free, no card needed, then $19 once.

What size should Google Play screenshots be? Any size from 320 to 3840 px with a long side no more than twice the short side. For apps, 1080 × 1920 (portrait) or 1920 × 1080 (landscape) is the size Google recommends.
How many screenshots can I upload to Google Play? Up to 8 per device type. At least 2 to publish, and at least 4 (apps) to be eligible for recommendation formats.
Can Google Play screenshots be PNG with transparency? No. Use JPEG or 24-bit PNG without alpha.
Can I use the word "Free" in my screenshots? Google's screenshot guidance lists "Best", "#1", "Top", "New", "Discount", "Sale" and "Million Downloads" as examples to avoid, and its feature graphic guidance adds "Free". It's safest to leave price wording out of graphics.
